...'Operation Puerto'. Nuff Said. So on a brighter note the last few days of training have been sweet as, finally feeling like i'm going somewhere. So its the middle of winter but there ain't been no rain in sight. Cold still but, 5deg today (with a max of 10) but hey i can live with that. Efforts today were shunned with the legs still reeling from the gym yesterday (or was it because of the plethora of good looking birds there leavin me weak at the knees..) Came across some interesting sights today however..enjoy cw.

Gimmie some truth..
Somewhat interesting to read about the latest allegations against LA... its a funny one you know, but at the end of the day the truth is that there are plenty of guys sucking money outta the sport who are far from clean (and still somehow manage to sleep at night)...you could tear your hair out thinking about it.. or just put that frustration in pushing the pedals. I choose the latter. Seeing a guy like JHK stand on a WC box the other week speaks volumes in terms of persistance and hard work..far more inspirational that the socceroos in my book! So needless to say today was a good day's trainin', couple more SE's in the bank, and caught up with a few of the homeboys on their way to hittin sassa (kinda made me wish I went the dirt option today instead of the tarmac!Ahh well.. Out. cw

Bucket O' Perspective...
So it has been a few days since the last update in the wide world of winston's blog, but for good reason...(apologies to the guy giving me the hurry up in the last posts comments section!!) very happy to report my days of sitting exams are dead and buried forever as of this week (well unless I fail..think positive, think positive dammit) which is radness to the max, just another little milestone along the road to finishing uni. Thinking of starting a 'days to go' tally on my wall, one till PJ week, one for finishing uni.... So, today was pretty cool, there are times I think when its pretty easy to get lost in the whole serious world of cycling and the day to day agenda of getting stuff organised and executed to plan..so today was great to gain some perspective on the whole deal by introducing a novice to the sport with a 'kid in the candy store' perspective who eats up new knowledge of the sport like chocolate bullets... so we hit up some classic roads in the nongs and it was pretty awesome just to get caught up in the whole new sport buzz he had runnin' and how much of the little things you now take for granted that you learned somewhere along the line..like pointing out potholes or halfwheelin or whatever...so it was kinda refreshing, enjoy the ride JF.
In other random news headlines of the week-
Mullet: above average.
Girl: Still no. Sigh.
Music- Springsteen (the REAL boss people, forget LA)
Soccer World Cup: Guus is a mastermind, but come on its soccer.
Highlight of the week- Rowney's random 'one minute of metal mayhem' music down the phone line. Absolute Gold.

Alien Invaders...
...okay so just the bro down from bendigo for the weekend, but still not too far of a creature from outer space.. with that hair and those riding skills (ha, just kidding roy)..whipped a quick one on sassa this morning, felt okay after a weekend of pretty much warming the bench with, well i guess something from another planet oozing out my nose..apologies to all those lunchtime eaters right now! So i'm kinda stunned that this site has now past the 1000 hits mark in round about a month..dont know if that actually rates in the nerdasaurus book of website hits, but i'm pretty stoked... especially cause there ain't a hell of alot going done this time of the year not being race season and travel and all...enjoy the pics. lator. cw.

Sweet as Sugar...
Sugar Mountain that is...put down your pens people and raise your glasses for Pezzadog taking 7th at NORBA #2 in NC, putting season pro's like the long legged boys Wicks and Trebon of Kona fame in the box, not to mention 2000 Olympian T Wells. The boy from the bubble, is there anything he can't do! As for this dog, today was a classic nongs winter training day, bout 6deg, foggy and wet and piss poor tourist drivers all over the place marveling at the fake antiques at blown out prices ...i swear licenses come in cereal boxes these days...over and out cw

SILENCE is Golden!
So the storm of this week has been weathered, finally getting all my uni shite done for this semester, with the running sheet of yesterday going something like this, 12.30am bed finshed portfolio. average. Up at 4.45am, 3.5hrs deliveries, into uni and out, hauling logs into a bobcat bucket for 5 hrs, playing picasso with a paintbrush 4hrs. Bed midnight. All intersped with some quality garage time spinnin the wrench. So needless to say the legs sucked a little today riding through struggletown and back..but it was very nice not to be riding on a Spanish maracca...huh?.. okay so the road bike has definatley been in the wars the past few weeks, and needed some major surgery (i aged 5 years when the dremmel tool fired up), but has come out the otherside an absolute dream with the finishing touches now completed, minus loose bolts rattling in the downtube (enough to drive a man insane(r)), new fork (thanks again aido), bit of hollowpin bling and new hoops...needless to say the silence was golden today out on open road.. and ain't enough o's in smooth.. lator. cw.

The ugly stick but I ain't fishin'...
So I'm getting beaten to a pulp at the moment with the big stick labeled "don't forget you're a uni student' right now...trying to piece together a professional portfolio..in 2 days..there's no doubt my new addiction to coffee has stemmed from this semester, but somehow is here to stay. Busted out the one speed with Eva this morn on the holy grail of trails that is sassa... prime condition she was too, a slick root fest woven through lush ferns, superb stuff that. No case of the traditional 'sassa sting' recorded today, being the lacerations and cuts on the insides of your arms from the over grown plants and ferns along the sides of the trail...hot days usually bring it on big time, with the sweat factor really turning up the heat and sting...Rob likens it to a mild curry...I'd have to agree! NORBA #2 this weekend people so get excited, teammate Perry will be there waving the turquoise flag... over and out, cw.
Late Additions...
With thanks to Ash from the Felt Racing Team...

Fun and Games.
Well it was a pretty solid weekend of last, early starts, long days and plenty of chamois time to boot. Took up a guest spot for the Rowney/Eva/Lefmann Cyclinic coaching day on sat which was a heap of fun. It's funny how many little skills you take for granted on a bike..and just how damn hard it can be explaining them to someone cause they are so innate...still, there was no doubt every rider had a ball, challenges were set and goals were achieved. What more could you ask for really?
Sunday was the Dirtriders 6hr Enduro, and armed with a loaner Yeti 575 (thanks Paul!) it was time to rip it up and spice up the base training a little..after all, it is only June people!! What more can I say, enduro racing is the reason I want to become a STXC specialist!! With 52 solo entries there were plenty of willing participants, and it just makes me appreciate just how incredible the solo 24hr guys are..seriously insane... So i had a ball on a close to 6inch travel dually that pedals brilliantly and makes light work of anything in its way..was a nice distraction from the pain...as were the red bull cans! Sydney import Lefmann lived up to his number one plate convincingly and piloted his Cannondale hardtail (!) to the win (rumours are circulating already about the fastest man in June..) Surprising to stand on the last spot on the box for thrid so all was good for this clown.. must finish by saying my blog photo skills sucked all weekend, obviously not used to such technology in my pocket, but will make amends... over and out, cw.

The road will just have to wait..
Well people the semester is done. Great. Posted a pic of the best part of any uni day, the drive home, and then the first spot of the mountain in the distance. Shame there's no audio but, radiohead was the flavour of the day...and the hum of a reco corolla engine at 80km/h of course!
So got my delivery of my new road wheels today...will be featured in the next Ride mag...pretty stoked cause I've never owned a decent set before and these puppies are lighter than ksyriums (and have custom turquiose stickers for Team Yeti!). Thanks to Greg at TWE wheels, much appreciated. Looking forward to giving them a run, but this weekend is dirt centrale, with Rowney and Eva's Cyclinc coaching day tomoro, then 6hr MTB enduro Sun...cheers, cw
